Sensei Mikko Ijäs, PhD is a Finnish Zen teacher, artist and researcher. Sensei Mikko is a successor of Belgian Zen teacher Frank De Waele Roshi. He is the teacher one of the coordinators and founders of Helsinki Zen. He is also a researcher of human evolution at the University of Helsinki. Sensei takes on the spiritual guidance and the priestly functions, gives Dharma teachings and is responsible for the training of the practitioners.

Portrait of Sensei Mikko Ijäs

Maija Myōshō Ijäs is a Finnish composer, musician, singer and voice coach. She was a student of Roshi Wendy Egyoku Nakao and a member of the Zen Center of Los Angeles (ZCLA) sangha until 2022, and she currently studies with his husband Sensei Mikko Ijäs. Maija is one of the coordinators and organizers of Helsinki Zen – Peacemakers Finland.

Frank De Waele Roshi is a Dharma successor of Genno Pagès Roshi and Bernie Glassman Roshi and qualified Zen teacher in the White Plum Soto Zen tradition of the late Taizan Maezumi Roshi. Frank Roshi lives in Ghent at the Zen Sangha zendo, where he works fulltime as a Zen teacher in residence. He takes on the spiritual guidance and the priestly functions, gives Dharma teachings and is responsible for the training of the lay practitioners. He is the teacher of Sensei Mikko.
